Marconi National Historic Site
Here at the Marconi National Historic Site, you will learn about the life and work of G. Marconi, whose life's work with telegraphy ultimately proved it was possible to send messages using electromagnetic waves instead of wires, communicating with what is now called Morse Code, a series of "dots and dashes" to signify different letters of the alphabet. Photographs, artifacts and models detail the outstanding events, dreams and successes of Marconi's life up to his death.
This was a precursor to ship-to-shore radio, and finally led to radio itself. The exhibits go into detail in enumerating the many contributions that Marconi made in the pioneer days of ground-to-air transmission. The exhibits explain that Marconi was not an inventor himself, but was able to use the inventions of others in new ways to help create wireless transmission. The Marconi National Historic Site is located in Glace Bay, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, at Table Head on Timmerman Street. It is open from June 1 until September 15 during regular daylight hours. Entrance is free.
